Angel

Faculty can login to web course tools ( Angel ) accounts using their official UAH directory UserID and password. To determine your directory UserID and password go to: http://www.uah.edu/cgi-bin/dirupdt.cgi. The UserID is the first part of your @email.uah.edu email address and your password is your first and last initialls followed by the last 6 digits of your A number (unless you've previously changed this). You can also change your password at this location.

In situations where faculty or students are not in the directory server, contact ANGEL support at angel@uah.edu or phone 824-6352.

BAB Labs

We have two computer classrooms, BAB 207 and 211, as well as one security lab, BAB 214, and one monitored open lab, BAB 215. There are also computers in the Study Room (BAB 120), which are available Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The computers in BAB 215, 211, and 214 use Microsoft Windows Vista with the latest version of most software titles we have available. The computers in BAB 207 and 120 use Windows XP.

Faculty who expect their students to use the labs' software are strongly encouraged to test the required software features first. CBA Network Support will work with faculty and students to resolve unexpected bugs in the lab's configuration. We do limited troubleshooting, however, in spite of our best efforts, you should not assume everything is working appropriately until you have checked the computers out for yourself.

Network Drives

Network Support has provided several different places and methods for storing and making accessible your data files to students, faculty, and staff, by assigning different network drives to perform these functions. Following is a description of the network drives and their functions:

N:\ DRIVE : Students may submit files to faculty from the labs by copying the files to faculty folders on the N:\ drive. You may have your students submit assignments to you in this manner in lieu of diskette or paper copies. You must first see me to set up one or more folders on these drives for you.

S:\ DRIVE: Faculty can make files available to their students from all BAB computer labs by placing the files in the course folders available on the S:\ drive. (Please remove files in your course folders no longer needed. See the Director of CBA Network Support about setting up folders to support your classes for the upcoming terms.)

T:\ DRIVE: Faculty, staff, and student assistants have read-only accessibility to folders and files on the T:\ drive. Documentation from the Dean's office is placed in the "CBADoc" folder on the T:\ drive.

U:\ DRIVE: Faculty can create a back up for their files by placing a copy of the files in a folder under their name located on the U:\ drive. A faculty's U:\ drive folder is accessible only by each individual faculty member.

V:\ DRIVE: The V:\ drive is a common drive that allows faculty, staff, and student assistants to exchange non-sensitive files with each other, without having to send email attachments. Anyone accessing the V:\ drive can read, write and delete to any of the folders and/or files. Please remove files from the V:\ drive folders no longer needed, as it should be used to store files temporarily. This folder is not accessible by lab PCs.

W:\ DRIVE : Faculty and staff can publish to the web merely by copying html files to their folder on the W:\ drive. The URL or Internet address to access your web pages would be: http://CBA.uah.edu/username/filename.html . For example, my web pages are located at http://CBA.uah.edu/whittena/index.html . Simply replace "whittena" with your user name & "index.html" with your file's name for the address to that file. If you do not have a folder on the W:\ drive, check with Network Support in BAB 329, 824-6510. Faculty/staff/students may also use FTP to publish web pages to http://webpages.uah.edu/.

Plagiarism Software (Turnitin)

TurnItIn.com is a Web-based plagiarism detection service available to UAH faculty and staff. It allows both faculty and students to upload electronic documents into the Turnitin database to identify similar patterns in text. The uploaded document is matched to billions of web pages, paper mill essays, and other student papers submitted online. Turnitin creates an "originality report" that records passages from the paper that might not be authentic, and lists Web sites and other resources that include matched content. Turnitin also provides a variety of educational resources on preventing and avoiding plagiarism, writing research papers and citing sources. Learn more about Turnitin.com at http://www.uah.edu/library/turnitin/. See Plagiarism Software for training dates and requirements on the use Turnitin.
