McShane, S.L. and Von Glinow, M.A., Organizational Behavior, Fourth Edition, New York: McGraw-Hill, 2008.

MGT 361 is a survey of the field of Organizational Behavior with a particular emphasis on the topic of leadership. In MGT 361 we will investigate the role of job related attitudes on absenteeism, turnover and individual performance. Factors that influence employee motivation, group dynamics and the effective leadership of teams, common communication problems, ethical leadership behavior in organizations, and the leaders role in managing conflict will also be studied. In addition, course topics will include negotiation, job design, performance evaluation, organizational culture, leadership in organizational development, and leadership theories and models.

In MGT 361 there will be two exams. These will each receive a weight of 30%. The paper assignment for the course is a literature review or a case study on a topic of interest to the student. Papers typically range in length between 8-12 pages double spaced. This assignment will receive a weight of 20%. During the class period team case problems will be assigned periodically throughout the semester. These team cases will receive a weight of 15%. Finally, class participation will receive a weight of 5%. Class attendance will be considered in the class participation grade. Because team cases are 15% of the grade, absence from a team case will result in a grade of 0 for that particular case. The exception would be an absence that is approved in advance in writing or by email.
