ChargerMail

Overview

All students at UAHuntsville are assigned an e-mail address on the campus e-mail system. ChargerMail provides an easy way to check your UAHuntsville e-mail via a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla. You can check your ChargerMail on any computer that has access to the World Wide Web. To login, you will need to know your UAHuntsville e-mail userid and password (see below).

Determining Your UAH E-mail Address

Before logging into ChargerMail for the first time, you will need to determine your UAHuntsville e-mail userid and password. To determine your e-mail userid, do one of the following:
  1. Go to the student registration website at http://register.uah.edu and then login to Student Services. Under Personal Information, click View E-mail Addresses to find your UAHuntsville e-mail address.
  2. Search for your e-mail address in the UAHuntsville directory http://www.uah.edu/cgi-bin/dirread.cgi.
  3. If you are still unable to determine your UAHuntsville e-mail address, contact the Computer & Network Services help desk at 824-HELP (824-4357, Von Braun Research Hall, Room M-30) or Charger Central at 824-7777 (University Center 117).

Your initial password is a combination of your first initial, last initial, and last four digits of your social security number. For example, Jane Doe's social security number is 123-45-6789. Her UAHuntsville e-mail password would be jd6789 (the initials must be lower case).

Logging into ChargerMail

To access your UAHuntsville e-mail, go to the ChargerMail website at https://chargermail.uah.edu/src/login.php?secure_login=yes and then enter your account login (userid) and password. Then click the Login button.

Note: If your web browser asks if you would like to save the login and password, click No if you are in a public lab or sharing a computer with someone else. Protect your passwords!

Reading & Managing Messages

After logging into ChargerMail, you should see a screen like the following:

The screen is divided into two portions: the Folder bar and the Email List.

The Email listing shows you the sender of the message, the subject, the attachments, and the date and time of the message.

To read a message, click on the subject of the message you would like to read.

A message will appear on your screen. There are a number of options in the Menubar for managing each message. The different options are described in the table below.

Message List displays the list of messages in the folder
Delete deletes the messages selected in the Email List
Prev ious will view the previous message in the list
Next will view the next message in the list
Forward will send the message on to a new address, using your address as the from and reply-to address
Forward as Attachment will attach the message to a new email message
Reply replies to the message currently being viewed
Reply All replies to the message currently being viewed, and to all the people in the To: and CC: fields as well
View Printable Version will display the message in a printable format
Compose creates a new email message
Addresses will open your address book for editing
Folders will open a page where you can create, rename, and delete folders
Options will open your options page so you can customize your UAH WebMail
Search will open a search page where you can search email messages by keywords
Help will open the help page in a new window
Sign out will end your UAH ChargerMail session
Move to will move the email message to a selected folder
Check mail will download new incoming email messages
Purge deletes all the messages from your trash folder

Sending a New Message

  1. Click the "New" button on the Menu bar. A mail composition window such as the following will appear:
  2. Enter the e-mail addresses of the intended recipients in the To , CC , and BCC fields. You may be able to select people from your address book, to enter directly into the 'To, Cc or Bcc' fields, by clicking the Address button on the upper-right portion of the mail composition window.
  3. Enter an appropriate Subject for your message.
  4. Type your message in the large text box and optionally run the spelling checker. Be sure to include your name at the end of the message.
  5. Above the composition window, check the desired optional settings:
    1. Priority - you may select high, normal or low priority for your message
    2. Receipt on Read, on Delivery - will send you a confirmation that your email has been delivered and/or read
    3. Signature - will insert your preselected custom signature
    4. Addresses - will take you to the address book
    5. Save Draft - will save your email message as a draft in the Drafts folder
    6. Spelling - will take you to the spell checker, allowing you to change misspelled words
    7. Compose in HTML - will take you to another composition window where you can wrtie you email in HTML format
    8. Send - will send your message
    9. Attach - enables you to attach any file to your Email
  6. Attach up to 10M worth of files:
    1. click the "Browse" button to navigate to the file that you wish to attch.
    2. Double-click the file or single-click the file and click the Open button.
    3. Click the Add button.

Changing Your E-mail Password

IIt is a good idea to change your e-mail password periodically. To change your password:

  1. Click the Options button in the Menubar
  2. Click Change Password option
  3. Enter your current password in the Old Password field
  4. Enter the password you would like to use in the New Password and Verify New Password fields
  5. Click Submit button
