Questionnaire Design Project
Due Thursday, 3/6 .
Basic Requirements
Working as individuals or in small groups, you must design a questionnaire to assist in gathering data concerning attitudes toward student issues within the college. I am going to give you some leeway in determining what issues you think should be surveyed. We will then combine various of your issues into a single questionnaire for data collection. You should think carefully about the content and layout of the questionnaire, following the procedures discussed in class and outlined in Chapter 11 from your book. Make sure that any directions/instructions necessary for accurate completion of the questionnaire are explicit. Your questionnaire must conform to the following guidelines:
1. Must be no more
than four typed or word-processed pages. You can use any layout,
format, and
font you
want, just remember to keep the questionnaire
neat and easy to read/follow.
2. Must use at least one branching question, with appropriate
instructions.
3. Must contain at least one set of multi-item/composite measures.
4. Must use a mix of
response formats, including some categorical data and some
likert-type
questions.
5. Must provide me with
an electronic copy and a paper copy by due date.
Information Needs
1. Should the college get into Distance Learning? Would students find it an attractive option? Would they view it as supplement to current delivery mechanisms or would it actually draw more students?
2. What are student attitudes toward the current collection of majors and classes? Are there directions/initiatives that we should take which we are not currently pursuing?
3. Attitudes and evaluations of students toward college faculty/staff, including instructors, advising, career advice, etc.
4. Demographic/profiling questions that we might use to segment desires on the above questions.
You are encouraged to be creative in the types of information that you ask for in your questionnaire. You might do some secondary searches on the web to find what other school have assessed, or you might be guided by your own agendas. Some examples of issues that you might find important for your questionnaire are:
I am not saying you have to include all of these or even any of them; they are just things that pop into my mind. You may use some of them or choose your own. We will evaluate one another's questionnaires and select the questions for inclusion in one final group questionnaire that we will then use for data collection.
Deliverable
Please submit your completed assignment in both paper and electronic formats. For the electronic version, you can either email it or bring it on a floppy, jumpdrive, or CD.
